TelTel Now Provides Feature-Rich Internet Telephony on Wireless and IP Handsets
IP phones are easily made "TelTel Ready" without changes to hardware
Santa Clara, California, June 2, 2005
SANTA CLARA, CA -- Supercomm - June 2, 2005 - TelTel, a provider of SIP-based global Internet telephony with
presence-enabled features, announced today that its service will now be available on wireless and wireline IP telephones.
This gives users more freedom to roam and still use TelTel's service from the convenience of an IP telephone handset,
anywhere and anytime. Until now, TelTel's community of 1 million users made Internet phone calls exclusively with
softphones.
TelTel has built the largest Internet Telephony community based on the open Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
As most wireline IP phones use SIP, they can now easily connect and interoperate through TelTel, as soon as they are
"TelTel Ready™." Additionally, Wi-Fi and Hotspot-enabled wireless handsets will enable users to take advantage of TelTel
wherever in the world there is wireless Internet access.
VoIP and Wireless handset makers can easily make their phones "TelTel Ready".
They only need to meet TelTel's provisioning requirements for their handsets, and be certified by TelTel.
No changes are required to the hardware due to TelTel's technology for automatic hardware configuration.
Once TelTel Ready, users can use the handset to receive and place calls within the TelTel network and access their
Friends Lists via speed-dial configuration. Additionally, a "TelTel Ready" handset that is connected to the Internet
allows the handset owner to be reached by other TelTel users without logging into a softphone.
"With the addition of handsets, callers have the choice to use TelTel however and wherever they choose," said Jack Chang,
COO of TelTel. "This also opens up TelTel to users who are interested in using Internet telephony but don't always have
computer access or often travel. Additionally, handset manufacturers can piggyback on TelTel's technology and gain
access to an entirely new market in the process."
TelTel's media service is in beta. TelTel's service is available for download at www.teltel.com.
