Executive Biographies
Sherman Tuan
Founder, Chief Executive Officer
A recognized pioneer and visionary in the Internet industry, Mr. Tuan has extensive knowledge and global experience in the Internet and telecommunications sectors.
Prior to TelTel, Mr. Tuan founded AboveNet Communications, a leading Internet data center service provider, and took it from a young start-up to a mature company listed on the NASDAQ. He also managed the company's subsequent multi-billion dollar sale to Metromedia Fiber Networks.
Prior to founding AboveNet, Mr. Tuan founded several other high-technology companies, including InterNex, and served in leadership positions with Acer Technologies.
Jack Chang
President and COO
Mr. Chang has extensive experience in product development, marketing, sales and operations in telecommunications in the U.S., Asia and Europe.
Before joining TelTel, Mr. Chang founded Blue Silicon, a leading provider of hosted unified and multi-media messaging solutions for service providers and enterprises worldwide. Mr. Chang is also the holder of three U.S. patents in message store-and-forward and Voice over IP (VoIP).
Prior to Blue-Silicon, Mr. Chang founded Carmel Connection, Inc., a manufacturer of corporate voice/fax/mail products that are distributed worldwide. Mr. Chang has served in various management positions at Siemens/Rolm and was responsible for Rolm's flagship voicemail product line, PhoneMail.
Mr. Chang holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of California, Berkeley.
Kenneth Chen
Chief Strategy Officer
Mr. Chen has over ten years of experience in OSS operations, general management, software development, market development and pre-sales support in telecommunication services and products in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to TelTel, Mr. Chen was the co-founder and CTO of GenieNRM, a leading manufacturer of network management, traffic analysis and broadband access control solutions for carriers and service providers worldwide. Prior to GenieNRM, Mr. Chen co-founded and served as Director of Engineering of APOL, the largest privately-owned ISP in Taiwan.
Mr. Chen has a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Tamkang University.
Wensong Zhang
Chief Scientist
Dr. Zhang has extensive experience in large-scale systems architecture, system software development, system security and the Linux operating system. He is the founder and developer of the Linux Virtual Server Project, which is dedicated to building advanced server clustering software for Linux.
Prior to TelTel, Dr. Zhang founded China Cluster Networks, a leading provider of cluster-based products and services in China. Dr. Zhang also served in management roles at 21Vianet in China. A recognized expert on Linux, he is also a standing member of the Co-Create Software Branch of the Chinese Software Industry Association in China.
Mr. Zhang holds a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Changsha Institute of Technology.
Benedict Tse
VP, Business Development
Mr. Tse has extensive experience in emerging product development with a special focus in developing telecommunications solutions for service providers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), and consumers. He has successfully pioneered such projects as a self-serve billing system, credit card fraud protection system, self-provisioned communication systems, NAT traversal solutions, voice recognition and voice portal solutions.
Prior to TelTel, Mr. Tse was the President and Co-founder of Packetel, Inc., a leading email-to-fax and VoIP solution provider. Under Mr. Tse's management, Packetel became a top-tier solution provider in less than two years. Before Packetel, Mr. Tse founded BJT, the third-largest San Francisco-Bay Area regional Internet service provider (as rated by The San Jose Business Journal).
Mr. Tse has a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science both in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.
Jay LaPointe
VP, Sales
Mr. LaPointe has over 20 years experience, from start-ups to fortune 100 companies, in leading product development, sales, marketing and operations teams in the telecommunications and managed services industries.
Before joining TelTel, Mr. LaPointe was Vice President of Enterprise Sales for MegaPath Networks, a leading provider of managed broadband services. At MegaPath he built a sales team focused on large multi-location customers. Prior to MegaPath, he was VP of Sales & Marketing for Adesta, a leading provider of telecommunications networks and security systems. In addition to his sales and marketing roles, he led the company's 5 year strategic planning committee.
Mr. LaPointe received a Master’s degree in International Business from George Washington University and Bachelors degrees in both Finance and Management from James Madison University.
William Sheu
VP, Product Development
Mr. Sheu has 15 years of experience in large-scale, mission-critical software system development at both start-ups and large corporations, with extensive background in architectural design and project planning for product development and system integration.
Before joining TelTel, Mr. Sheu was the Director of Software Engineering at Octasoft, an e-Financial solution provider. Prior to Octasoft, Mr. Sheu was Director and co-Founder of iCSD Technology, which developed the Content Delivery Network software product. He has also served as Manager of Software Systems at InnoMedia, a premier VoIP product vendor.
Mr. Sheu has a Master's degree in Manufacturing Engineering from University of California, Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University.
Koulai Shu
President, Taiwan Market
Mr. Shu has over 25 years of experience in hardware and software development, sales and general management in the U.S. and Asia.
Prior to TelTel, Mr. Shu served as V.P. of Sales at Alphanetworks, an OEM/ODM that makes wireless, VoIP and digital home components. Mr. Shu helped to take the company public in 2004. Before Alphanetworks, Mr. Shu was V.P. of Sales at Myson Technology, which Mr. Shu co-founded and helped to take public in 1996 with its other founding members.
Mr. Shu has a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Chiao-Tung University of Taiwan.
